Last Week of Work at Week 39

It's my second last day at work before I start my maternity leave. And what a gruelling last week it has been, trying to finish up all the work (I think I can't finish...arrrgh). I even woke up in the middle of the night to pee, and couldn't really go back to sleep thinking about how to write up something at work. Jeez, what happened to insonmia due to the excitement and impending labour. I think I have no time to get excited yet.

I feel like my belly has dropped further even though last week at the ob/gyn visit, the doctor said I haven't. The top of my uterus feels really soft nowadays. I will have to see what she says today for my visit.

On Sunday, we went for our last childbirth prep class - Tools to Active Childbirth, and picked up more tricks to use during contractions. I think I'm still in for the non-epidural. Who knows where they might poke when they are administering the epidural right? I don't really want to take the risk.

The folks are coming in this Saturday, which means more hustle and bustle. I hope I don't get too overdue and waste their time hanging around waiting for me to pop. Jiejie and G have finally decided to come over earlier one week, after Di's advice. Good, G can have lots of fun exploring our backyard and check out our silly turtle Spike, which I can't get rid of.

dd has been pretty busy preparing for his big day as daddy. He set up the nursery furniture, washed all the baby clothes, checked out deals (his favourite task!) for diapers and breast pump, cooked dinner and washed dishes almost all the time, washed the bedsheets for the folks, brought back the twin mattress for sister, massaged my feet while I read bedtime stories to fifi and many more stuff. Yes I'm appreciative, even though I still like to complain...

38 Weeks!

By now, there's nothing exciting about having to roll in and out of bed sideways, groan every time I need to stand up, stop and cringe with my legs together when I have a sudden urge to pee (fifi pressing on my bladder muscles).

As if all that physical discomfort wasn't enough, there are always these endless questions and comments from people about my belly. "Wow you suddenly look very big!" "Wow you look ready to pop!" (not really). Sometimes I wish they would divert to other topics like Obama dropping by at a Chinese restaurant in SF Chinatown and how did he spend $160 on a few types of dim sum.

Anyway I had a cervix exam today and looks like nothing is ready yet. And it seems like fifi has not dropped yet because the size of my uterus still mreasures the same (~37cm). I hope I do not have to be induced. My weight has gone up dramatically to 135lb (I saw it was 132lb 2 days ago!) and I think it is due to the water rentention in my legs and palms which have suddenly become very swollen. Great that it's finally Friday and I am going to yoga tomorrow.

One more week of work!

Full-Term Baby!

At 37 weeks, fifi is a...
Full-term baaa-by!
Full-term baaa-by!
Full-term baaa-by!

She's all nice and ripe now. Yay! And I am all ready to explode.
Some swollen hands and feet - check!
Uncomfortable sleeping at night - check!
Walking like a penguin - check!
Having dreams about labour - check!
With all that discomfort, of course I would be glad to have her out and about. But I know by then I would also miss the days of being her human taxi and her wriggling and gliding her legs against my tummy, and her fingers digging into my thighs.

Head Down!

Fifi is head-down, lying on her side and facing my right. No wonder I am always feeling her fat butt is against my left side and her toes are forever poking and jabbing my right side. And her fingers are always digging into my thighs. The gynae took a picture of her foot with four small toes and one big fat toe. I forgot to ask the doctor if she has dropped into my pelvis yet. Aye!
To fifi: stay down!

Final Countdown!

It's the month of February 2012 which means about THIRTY days left to fifi's birthday. OMG. OMG. OMG. This also means I have lost my chance of squeezing in a babymoon, I was hoping to go somewhere, anywhere. I would even take a trip to Santa Cruz, Monterey or Carmel.
So, this marks the end of jet-setter ellie.
Instead book-reader ellie has evolved. I have been busy cramming in information on birthing and babycare. But somehow I haven't been able to remember anything. Like how many wet diapers should I expect in a day.
Nonetheless, I'm still proud to say I have been trying to do at least 15 minutes of yoga exercise every night before going to sleep.

Tomorrow is the start of the weekly ob/gyn visits until fifi is born. We will be seeing ultrasound tomorrow to check her position. Hope she's head down! Has she dropped lower into the pelvis yet?
