3/21 Sat

It’s finally the weekend! I told myself that I will take it slow and easy since I made it through the week. Let the kids do whatever and close my eyes.
I made my first takeout since the shelter in place order started and it was an interesting experiences I went to the Taiwanese bento shop before it opened. There was already a lady standing there waiting, so I immediately jumped out of the car and waited behind her, remembering to keep my 6ft distance apart. Right when the shop opened, she slipped on her disposable gloves and went in. Wow, well prepared! They had little ‘x’ marked on the floor so people won’t be too close. I ordered my food, but had to wait for my fried chicken to be fried, so I waited outside the shop and peered through the window. The rest of my lunch order was sitting on the counter, and a man peered into the bag to check if it was his food. I immediately rushed in and said let me take that and call me once my chicken is ready. Haha, scared.
We still microwaved the food after I got home, super paranoid.

Received a package from Amazon, which I picked up using a plastic bag and left in the garage, since the news reported that an Amazon warehouse worker was tested positive...

After lunch, we went out for a walk. Seemed somewhat depressing, although the kids were chattering very loudly away. Perhaps my own feelings only,
I asked the kids if they wanted to make some egg carton crafts, and of course they did.

3/20 Fri

We finally made it to Fri. Sticking to the same old routine, while letting Sophie do a little more learning using the apps provided by the school.

Here’s a summary of the activities for the week.

3/19

Somewhat of a daily morning exercise routine. So far we have tried yoga, exercise with frozen story, Jack Hartmann, but this seems to be the kids’ favourite:
Kidz bop!
We also tried doing some playdoh while enjoying what little sunshine we had over this week.
Next week, it seems that the school teachers will come up with some distance learning program, so maybe there will be less time to do such activities. Also, with starting my new job (and already wfh!),  it will also be more difficult to do some more elaborate activities.

3/17 and 3/18

With each passing day, time seems to fly by a little faster, as we get into more of a routine. Sometimes we still fall out of the routine where  TV is often requested while squirming out of worksheets, piano and the like, of which I scream out “ok do whatever u want!”
Tue we attempted to use up some of my wheat flour by making banana muffins. Sophie did most of it and they turned out pretty fluffy!
On Tue evening, we went out for a drive in the evening just to get out of this cabin fever. It was pretty quiet. We decided to stop by Whole Foods so we could top up. It wasn’t that crowded and most were amazon shoppers. However, most of the essential shelves were cleaned out like milk, eggs, bread. A notice posted “no chicken at all”.
I was honestly a little surprised as I thought Cupertino residents already scrambled two weeks ago.

On Wed, we attempted macarons again, mostly because baking seems more fun than doing worksheets. This time our shapes are better but taste and texture stay the same.
Mostly the older girls stay busy with legos and yesterday they found some jigsaws. Its like digging for treasures at home now! It seems Cupertino just dumps resources on parents so I will just have to systemically assign some online work to Sophie everyday.

Day 3 Lockdown 3/16 (Mon)

Tried to follow the schedule
Lunch was following the viral Japan KFC chicken rice recipe using leftover Popeyes chicken

Basically adding chicken broth to cook rice and then add the fried chicken. The chicken meat falls apart after steaming with the rice. It’s like Hainanese fried chicken rice.

Family fun night

Meyerholz has a family fun night where the principals would read stories and the kids got to decorate holiday cookies. Another fun activity night to bring the girls now that I don’t have to breastfeed anymore!

The girls looked like they had lots of fun. Sophie was pretty comfortable in her zone and went off with her friends without needing much supervision.
Our dear middle Olivia, who has been especially testy lately which i think is from her jealous heart of the baby, seemed happy to have mama for the night.

Here’s Ollie enjoying some cookies and listening to stories...
